Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has decided to retire from Test cricket after consecutive defeats in Australia following a historic clean sweep by New Zealand on home soil.
According to a report by ‘Times of India’, Rohit Sharma will announce his retirement after the fifth Test against Australia.
Indian team captain Rohit Sharma has scored just 31 runs in the 3 matches of the series against Australia, which is just one more than the wickets taken by Jasprit Bumrah (30).
It should be remembered that the host team has a 1-2 lead in the 5-match series of the ongoing ‘Border Gavaskar Trophy’ in Australia.
In the first match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series played in Perth, Australia, India, led by Jasprit Bumrah in the absence of Rohit Sharma, defeated the host team by 295 runs.
The third match ended in a draw due to rain and India suffered defeats in the remaining matches.
The report states that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials and national selectors have spoken to Rohit Sharma, but a final decision regarding his retirement has not been made and when he will announce it. Rohit Sharma will likely announce his retirement after the final Test match against Australia.
However, it seems that if India somehow manages to reach the final of the World Test Championship, Rohit Sharma will ask the board officials and selectors for some time and try to convince them to hold off on retirement until the final.
